Culture

The people of Ecuador are as diverse as its geographical regions. The coastal people of Guayaquil tend to be animated and active. Their speech is also faster than that of other regions. People in Quito enjoy dressing fashionably, a luxury afforded by the city’s cooler climates. In Guayaquil, the greatest fashion concern is staying cool!

Ecuadorians enjoy music and dance – and there are enough styles to suit anyone’s taste. Different musical genres like pasacalle, yaraví, albazo, cachullapi, tonada, sanjuanito and bomba combine the influences of Ecuador’s indigenous, European and African ancestry. Pop, rock and Caribbean styles such as salsa, merengue, bachata and reggaetón are also widely enjoyed.
